Everyone from both sides of the house were gunning for the second head of household (HOH) competition on BB28, a competition that was set at a Nashville, TN, bar on June 30, 1992. Houseguests had to find a partner for Round 1, and Survivor legend Rick Devens, was left without one, allowing him to stand next to his fellow Survivor houseguest and outgoing HOH Dee and advance to Round 3. Round 2 saw partners battle each other, shooting disks on hats with numbered figures, trying to get the top score.
Heading into the semifinals of the HOH competition, the pairs were:
- Angela and Jason
- Kamu and Lyric
- Melody and Drew
- Haley and Devens
Haley and Devens would combine for the highest score, leading to one more shot between the two of them to decide HOH, and even though Devens tried to throw the competition, he would up winning power (that’s what happens in this crazy game!)
Originally, Devens was going to go to bed and figure out his plan in the morning. Rome immediately scurries up to the HOH room and insists Devens does not put himself, his showmance, or Jason on the block, but that he’s ok with LaTrice and Melody going up.
With this information, and Devens trying to have the least amount of blood on his hands possible, his original thought is to put up LaTrice, Mallory, and Melody up, but Angela talks him into Rome being a big problem, and that he needs to be backdoored, and that he’s Rick Devens, and he needs to make a big move.
Angela’s pep talk works, and with the plan in motion, Devens gets all of the Red Corner and Crossovers alliance members together to form a new group -- the Toolshed -- with the goal of backdooring Rome and sending him out the door. Meanwhile, as Dee and Angela are rounding up Toolshed members, they wake up Rome and Lyric, the former trying to get into the HOH room by ringing the doorbell (unsuccessfully btw).
At this point, the lines have been clearly drawn in the house, and they’re two sides:
- Dee, Devens, Angela, Barrett, Drew, Kamu, Haley, Chuk
- Rome, Lyric, Melody, Mallory, Jason, LaTrice, Yash, Taylor
Before nominations, which was promoted before the episode as the wildest nomination ceremony in BB history (though not really), Angela went to the BB time capsule to spin around in a chair just like she did in BB26 and receive Vince’s egg punishment from BB27. On a side note, Jason was really upset Angela was picked over him this week for the time capsule, which leads us right into the nomination ceremony.
While wearing that egg costume, the episode closes with Angela and Jason screaming at each other at the ceremony, as Jason believes Devens’ HOH is actually Angela’s HOH, and the aftermath is promised to be revealed Wednesday, along with the power of veto competition.
Non-spoiler thoughts
- After a week of boring gameplay and an unanimous first vote, Devens was the perfect HOH for Week 2, and he can play this game similar to Survivor. Devens wanting to go to sleep right after the HOH competition and then completely changing course and blowing the game up in the wee hours of the night is who he is.
- After initially not believing in the Red Corner, combining the Red Corner and the Crossovers into one alliance is an interesting move. If they play their cards right, they can run the game. Drew and Angela have connections on the other side of the house, as does Barrett.
- Speaking of those connections, Angela is protective of LaTrice, even though she is working for the other side of the house, a complete flip from LaTrice’s initial reaction when the BB26 legend entered the house.
- Angela looks great in the egg costume.
- Jason is going to continue to be a sad man if he thinks he’s going to get to compete anytime soon in the time capsule.
- Rome is the most likely to go home this week after last week forming an alliance in the house. That’s how quick the game can turn.
- If he does leave, where does that leave his dance partner, Lyric?
