Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH was buzzing with excitement on March 15th as Dan + Shay lit up the stage for a night filled with unforgettable music, connection, and pure joy.
The evening kicked off with Hailey Whitters, whose infectious energy set the perfect tone for the show. Backed by an incredible band, especially noteworthy for their skill on strings, Whitters had set an incredible tone for the night.
Ben Rector followed, charming the audience with his soulful voice and engaging stage presence. A personal favorite of mine was the incredible saxophone solos played by David Besonen throughout the set. It was delightful to witness Rector not only showcasing his talent but also ensuring that each of his band members had the opportunity to shine individually. His connection with the fans was evident, as he won over the country music enthusiasts in attendance with his soulful voice, engaging stage presence, and humorous banter.
And then came the main event: Dan + Shay, who embodied the meaning of connecting with fans on a personal level.
From starting the show amidst the crowd to acknowledging longtime supporters and newcomers alike, the duo's genuine love for what they do was evident in every note they sang. They mentioned that the Nationwide Arena was their last show in 2020 before COVID shut down the world, making the night even more special as they expressed gratitude to their fans for their unwavering support. Being back in the same arena four years later with a sold-out show added to the significance of the evening.
Shay made the night especially memorable for a lucky fan when he knelt in front of her while grabbing her hand to serenade her. The crowd echoed the fan’s excitement with an eruption of excitement and adoration. The band's dynamic onstage chemistry and their knack for energizing each other added an extra layer to the performance.
Dan's exclamation, “I am literally having the best night of my life, Columbus,” summed up the electric atmosphere that filled the arena. Dan + Shay's thoughtful gestures, such as crediting their tour photographer from Columbus and doing a classic OH-IO chant with Columbus fans, showcased their appreciation for their audience.
The concert was not just about the music but an immersive experience filled with light-up cowboy hats, concert tees, and cowboy boots donned by fans, creating a visual spectacle that complemented the stellar lighting design.
Dan + Shay's concert in Columbus was a testament to the unifying power of music and the joy that comes from sharing it with a passionate audience. The energy in the arena was undeniable, leaving everyone with a night of unforgettable memories filled with love, gratitude, and incredible music.
Fans who missed out on this spectacular show still have the chance to catch Dan + Shay on their Heartbreak on the Map Tour, which is scheduled to travel across various states until September of this year. With their captivating performances and infectious energy, this tour is not one to be missed.
