Megan Moroney has been making a name for herself in the world of country music since her debut single “Wonder” in 2021.

Her third and latest album, Cloud 9, was released on February 27, 2026. The album cover features the singer on a ladder in a sky filled with pink clouds. Whether she’s climbing up or down is up for interpretation. The album features fifteen songs. Cloud 9 features a mix of traditional country and pop-influenced songs and stays on brand for what Megan Moroney is about. While the album features songs about relationships, there are many songs about heartbreak and breakups, or what could’ve been.

“Cloud 9”

“Gravity's calling, ain't picking up the phone

This view that I've got is the best that I've known”

Have you ever fallen for someone who makes you feel as if you’re floating on cloud nine? It can be a beautiful feeling. While walking on cloud nine could feel amazing, Megan Moroney is higher than that in the first single off her album, “Cloud 9.” The song explores themes of euphoria, being present, and new love.

Megan finds herself singing to her significant other about how she feels about him. While most feel like they're on cloud nine in the midst of a new relationship, she feels above that. She sings, “It's a long, long way, way down, Down to cloud nine,” letting listeners know she can look down at cloud nine. It can be said that the two are in their honeymoon phase. When she’s with her partner, she’s able to shut out any distractions and annoyances that get thrown her way. Megan is at peace when the world tries to send chaos her way.

The way she reinterprets the meaning of ‘cloud nine’ for herself is beautifully conveyed in the lyrics. “Cloud 9” is both the title track of the album and a relatable, dreamy song. It sets the tone for what an album called Cloud 9 should sound like.

A playlist about romance, falling in love, or connection would suit this song well.

“Medicine”

“So take a shot, just throw it back

Don't worry, babe, I'm gonna call you back”

Seeking revenge on someone who has wronged you is something many people would love to do. However, simply getting a taste of their own medicine is just as sweet as getting revenge. Megan Moroney witnesses her partner getting a taste of his own medicine in “Medicine.” The song explores themes of revenge, betrayal, and empowerment. Megan’s partner did her wrong, and instead of getting true revenge, she gives him a taste of his own medicine to the point that he starts thinking she’s toying with him.

He tried to ignore her, and she decided to ignore him harder. He ignored her for three days; she ghosted him for five. The guy asked a blonde for her number, which caused Megan to get the number of someone her partner knows, even though they may be close. She's not starting a war, but instead getting even and controlling the narrative in her own calculated way.

Megan wants to live her life, not worry about a man trying to bring her down, as she knows her worth. “Medicine” is a song that blends traditional and modern elements, while showcasing a playful vibe.

A playlist about karma, heartbreak, or empowerment would suit this song well.

“6 Months Later”

“It's a tale as old as time, I guess

When you couldn't care more, I couldn't care less”

Many of us have had an ex who left us out of the blue, only to realize the mistake they made months or years later. Megan Moroney knows what it’s like in the third track on her album “6 Months Later.” The song explores themes of heartbreak, regret, and resistance. It’s been six months since her ex left her because he felt as if he didn’t want anything to do with her. When it happened, she was heartbroken and hurt. However, she eventually came to terms with it.

By the time she’s officially over her ex, the ex wants to pop back into her life, trying to get her back. Megan isn’t trying to hear it. Instead, she’s wondering why she ever got with him to begin with. She grew from their breakup and found herself wiser than ever. “6 Months Later” is a relatable song that leans more toward a country pop vibe than its predecessors.

A playlist about moving on, empowerment, or breakups would suit this song well.

“Stupid”

“But there's got to be a reason why he isn't here

With a girl like me, you don't just disappear”

Being ghosted by someone is never fun. It can lead the person being ghosted to overthink and question things. Megan finds herself going through a ghosting situation she can’t believe is happening in “Stupid.” The song explores themes of hope, denial, and doubt. While wanting to meet up with her love interest, the singer finds herself getting stood up and ghosted by the guy.

She doesn't think the problem lies with her. She knows her worth and how good of a catch she is. Megan runs through scenarios of what she thinks could have happened to the guy. She says that while he might be pretty and dumb, she knows he can't be stupid enough to ghost her. She's hoping that maybe he got busy doing something, or something happened with his technology.

A playlist about ghosting, disappointment, or angst would suit this song well.

“Beautiful Things”

“Come on pretty mockingbird, I wanna hear you sing”

There's beauty in everything around us, including ourselves. If you need a reminder, “Beautiful Things” is the song you turn to. The song explores themes of rejection, heartbreak, and beauty. Taking a break from her love life, Megan Moroney sings to her niece.

When talking about the song during her debut live performance of “Beautiful Things” at the Credit One Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2025, she stated, “I was the girl that, you know, in middle school, I didn’t get invited to the party. And when I got a little bit older, I couldn’t make the guy love me and stay with me. And I just wish I had a song that said exactly this, and so, I think that’s part of the reason why I wrote it for my niece.”

In the song, Megan brings up finding out about being socially isolated, getting one's heart broken, and how others will try to bring one down, including one's inner critic. She tells her niece (and younger self) that while the world can be cruel, there's so much beauty out there, especially the beauty within oneself.

“Beautiful Things” is a beautiful ballad that many people could benefit from hearing. It's relatable, emotional, and a good reminder to people, especially women and girls, that they're beautiful and special.

A playlist about beauty, resilience, and reassurance would suit this song well.

“Convincing”

“I think someone cued the moon, the perfect view

And put the breeze on the water”

Meeting someone new can sometimes be exhilarating. During rare moments, one might feel like they’re in love, even when they’re not. That's what Megan Moroney sings about in “Convincing.” The song explores themes of romance, connection, and living in the moment. Megan recently met someone new and reflects on the small moments she’s had with him. She’s been enjoying their time together. She sings, “Say, 'I want you" in French; this feels way too "Lights, camera, action,” letting us know what they have feels cinematic.

They aren’t in love. However, others might think otherwise due to the connection and chemistry between them. In her eyes, their connection feels convincing and real. It’s a beautiful and dreamy song that would be perfect for those slow relationship buildups in shows and movies.

A playlist about passion, romance, or cinematic love would suit this song well.

“Liars & Tigers & Bears “

“Speak your mind, but not too loud

Be sure of yourself, but never too proud”

Every once in a while, we get an artist who makes a song about what it’s like being a celebrity. Artists and celebrities, in general, have different experiences. However, a common pattern is how it’s difficult being a woman in the industry. Last year, JADE shared her experiences on her debut album with her singles “Angel Of My Dreams” and “IT girl,” and now Megan Moroney is having her turn with “Liars & Tigers & Bears.” The song explores themes of societal pressure, expectations, and culture (celebrity).

In society, women are often held on a pedestal and to impossible standards. It’s the same when it comes to the music industry. To speak on her own experiences as a woman in the industry, Megan reimagines the popular film, The Wizard of Oz, saying, “Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!” by replacing the word “lions” with “liars.” Women in the industry are expected to carry themselves a certain way to attract an audience. The industry expects them to always smile, speak up on things but not everything, always look their best, and more. This is her callout to show how much of what is expected comes from a misogynistic standpoint.

Megan doesn’t just call out the industry, however. She also calls out toxic people who are music fans in the lines, “Love everybody, aren't you all friends? Even the ones that we've pit you against.” The song is honest and relatable when it comes to women as a collective.

A playlist about pressure, image, or success would suit this song well.

“I Only Miss You” feat. Ed Sheeran

“I only miss you when it's raining

But this downpour outside ain't nothing new”

Some people have moments where they either don’t miss their ex or miss their ex all the time. Then there are those people who miss their ex under certain circumstances, such as visiting a place that reminds them of the person. “I Only Miss You,” featuring Ed Sheeran, is about missing an ex under certain circumstances. The song explores themes of heartbreak, yearning, and loneliness. Megan and Ed Sheeran find themselves supposedly moved on from a breakup. However, in the midst of moving on, they catch themselves missing their ex when they’re either drinking or feeling lonely. Sometimes, it can be as little as hearing the ex’s name.

It can be hard not to think about an ex that had such a huge impact on you, which makes this song extremely relatable in all the ways. Megan and Ed Sheeran do a perfect job at painting a picture of what it’s like to miss an ex unexpectedly, even when you know you shouldn’t.

A playlist about longing, breakups, or missing someone would suit this song well.

“Wedding Dress”

“What if the missing you don't ever go away?

What if you're burned into my brain?”

Have you ever been scared to move on from an ex who made you feel on top of the world? If you have, then you would find Megan Moroney’s “Wedding Dress” relatable on some level. The song explores themes of heartbreak, fear of moving on, and reminiscing. She flips the script of a song about missing someone. She wonders many “what ifs” when it comes to her ex. She knows she should get over him, but doesn’t know if it’s possible to do so.

The one thing Megan knows for certain is that while she’s out here, missing her ex, she doesn’t want to one day walk down the aisle with someone else and realize that he won’t get off her mind. It’s why she hopes she can miss him as much as she can allow herself now, so one day she can truly be happy with whoever comes into her life next. “Wedding Dress” is a bittersweet, yet intimate, slow song that hits the feels.

A playlist about missing someone, “what ifs,” or heartbreak would suit this song well.

“Change of Heart”

“How could you do it? You put me through it

I was in love, and you were just bored”

Not every relationship ends on good or mutual terms. Some relationships end in the worst way, whether it’s lying, cheating, or something else. Megan finds herself wishing things could be better while realizing she deserves better in “Change of Heart.” The song explores themes of betrayal, disappointment, and uncertainty. Megan is self-aware in the song. She blames herself and wonders if she could’ve been the reason for her and her ex's downfall. However, as she thinks about it more, she changes her mind.

Megan changes her mind on several things, including her feelings toward the person. While her feelings were real, the guy wasn’t serious about her. He betrayed her and toyed with her emotions. Everything he’s done has made her feel that she never wants to jump into another relationship, which is something many of us can relate to.

A playlist about dishonesty, toxic relationships, or breakups would suit this song well.

“Bells & Whistles” feat. Kacey Musgraves

“She don't put on no makeup and don't bleach her hair

And she wouldn't be caught dead in the clothes that I wear”

Watching an ex move on can be painful. One might question what the new partner offers that they don't. In “Bells and Whistles,” featuring Kacey Musgraves, Megan’s ex gets into a relationship with someone else, prompting Megan to compare herself to the other woman.  The song explores themes of insecurity, authenticity, and relationship expectations. The duo explores the concept of relationships and how people often expect women to conform to a certain way in relationships.

It isn’t a song about them hating the woman the ex has moved on to. Instead, they point out everything that is “right” about the woman and how she’s what men might deem as “simple.” Meanwhile, Megan and Kacey are anything but simple. They live their lives in the spotlight. They don’t come without complexity, and more importantly, they come with bells and whistles. Megan and Kacey can understand why the ex chose their new partner, but ultimately, they are who they are. The song is a little bit of the traditional side of country music and blends Megan and Kacey’s vocals beautifully.

A playlist about insecurity, authenticity, and relationship expectations would suit this song  well.

“Table for Two”

“No regrets, just the truth

Like, we're the only ones in this room”

It can sometimes be hard to move on from someone, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Most know how it could be wrong, and others aren’t focused on that. Megan’s “Table For Two” finds her knowing she should move on, but not caring to do so. The song explores themes of desire, reconciliation, and longing. She wants to spend time with her ex because she’s been missing his presence and, in her words, kind of still loves him. Megan isn’t afraid to take the risk since she has nothing planned at the moment.

The singer imagines how everything will play out between them. She knows how he'll be and react to her, thinking that nothing will be different compared to when the two of them were in a relationship. She simply wants to enjoy his company including the tipsy kissing and staying out all night that might come with it. The song is slow and dreamlike. Some people might see themselves in the song if they have an ex who they wouldn't mind spending time with.

“Wish I Didn't”

“So, baby, believe me when I say

‘If you test me, you'll be wishing you never met me’"

If you have a reputation, it’s best to proceed with caution when it comes to wanting to have a shot with Megan. Her song “Wish I Didn’t” lets men know to tread lightly with her. The song explores themes of caution, vulnerability, and fear. The singer finds herself wanting to get to know someone new, but he has a not-so-good reputation with dating and relationships. Instead of writing him off as she could easily do, she instead warns him not to mess things up when it comes to wanting to be with her.

She wants to be with him, but at the same time, she’s also waiting for him to show him why he has the reputation he has with others. While women in his past might have gone easy on him, she’s not going to be afraid to ruin his life if he does her wrong. Megan will waste no time wishing that she hadn’t done so much for him. Her biggest way of getting back at him? Writing songs about him like any songwriter does about an ex who does them wrong. The song is an upbeat country song that showcases how she can be a good-natured person in relationships as long as someone treats her well, but easily do a complete 180 and turn into a different person if she’s done wrong.

A playlist about red flags, taking risks in relationships, or trust issues would suit this song well.

“Who Hurt You?”

“Pump the brakes, just call it fun

You'd cosplay someone with feelings”

When someone hurts you emotionally, sometimes all you want to do is get everything you’re feeling out of your system one way or another. That’s exactly what Megan Moroney did when it comes to “Who Hurt You?” The song explores themes of heartbreak, emotional manipulation, and betrayal. The song feels like a perfect follow-up to “Wish I Didn’t.” It could be said to be the former song’s big sister, as in this song, we find out she gets hurt by the subject she’s singing to.

There were warning signs in front of her, but she was oblivious to them because of the way she felt about the guy. While he lied, played with her feelings, and more, she decided to question who hurt the guy who felt it was okay to hurt her. She knows that while it happened to her, there’s a strong chance that he’s going to do it over and over again. The wildest part of it all? The guy betrayed her for someone younger than them. By the end of “Who Hurt You?” Megan is okay with either being alone or moving on to someone new in time. The last thing she needs or wants is someone fake in her life, especially when it comes to a significant other. That’s an entire mood. It’s a melancholic song that shows sadness with a hint of anger layered underneath.

A playlist about betrayal, breakups, or deception would suit this song well.

“Waiting On The Rain”

“Oh, his head is in the clouds

Looks like it won't be long now”

It’s not easy to feel as if your relationship is slowly leading to a breakup. Sometimes all one can do is wait for it to happen. That’s what Megan is choosing to do in “Waiting On The Rain,” the final song off her Cloud 9 album. The song explores themes of anticipation, acceptance, and breakups. She knows that her relationship is doomed. She might not have known it from the start, but she’s aware of it happening right in front of her throughout the song.

Her and her partner’s relationship had a good run. They shared some good memories. However, something happened in their relationship that made her realize the two aren’t right for each other. Then again, the guy seems to start acting distant from her, even though he’s present and around her. All Megan can do is wait for the day to come when the storm comes to take over what she has. She accepts that this is how things are supposed to be, even if it might hurt her on the inside. The song feels soft and heartbreaking, but a reminder that not all good relationships last in the long run.

A song about anticipation, heartbreak, or letting go would suit this song well.

I haven’t been a Megan Moroney fan for long, but I’m proud to say I’ve been a fan since discovering her a year or two ago. Cloud 9 only made me a fan more than I already was. My top three favorites of the sixteen songs off the album include “Liars & Tigers & Bears,” “Cloud 9,” and “Medicine.”
