Following Kilby and Lewis’ big move to force the original Savu to send Linnea to Ponderosa, Eric has a heart to heart with Kilby, somebody who he thought was his best friend. Eric tells Kilby that he does not feel like he’s a dishonest person, but that was a dishonest move. From Kilby’s side, he made the move because he wanted to protect Lewis and Eric, his two closest allies in the game. The next day, Eric makes it clear to Cristian and Sharonda that Kilby is more dangerous than Lewis, and that their relationship won’t be the same again.
Meanwhile, on Toka, Mike wants to distance himself from Brady and Carter, as he feels working with those guys are not in his best interest to win the game. He pulls Kristin -- the one original Savu member on this Tribe -- to try and work out a working relationship for at least one vote. In a confessional, Kristin tells us that she doesn’t want to necessarily work with Mike, but she’s open to all relationships.
That statement couldn’t be more true, as she joins Sharonda and Ori on a journey. The rules of this journey are different than years past, as this time, two people will return to their Tribe with ribs and corn. The other will go to Exile Island, with an idol that can only be played on the other two. Kristin agrees to go to Exile and gets the idol, and while there, it is revealed that if Ori and Sharonda are voted out, that idol becomes a full-powered idol, potentially changing her strategy once the merge kicks off.
But before we get to the merge, we have an immunity challenge where players had to go through rope, knock down puzzle pieces, then rebuild said puzzle, which was the Survivor 51 logo. Savu is desperate. Jelly, Devon, and Ori are 3/5 of the helicopter alliance, alongside Sharonda and Aaliyah, who was voted off first. They got off to a great start, but their puzzle skills were not up to the task, as Dina and Toka dominate that part of the challenge, finishing in near equal time and sending Savu back to Tribal.
With her life in the game on the line, Jelly tells Devon and Ori about her idol after Devon pitches everybody playing their Shot in the Dark. Ori then knows he has to go into overdrive to convince both of his friends that being a duo at the merge is a bad idea. Ori does play his Shot in the Dark, but it is unsuccessful, and in the end, the bond that Jelly and Devon formed together while Ori went on the journey was enough to send the big guy home, becoming (somehow) the first male voted out of the Open Era.
This episode was mostly uneventful, and once Savu lost the immunity challenge, it was pretty clear who was going home. Ori is another victim of a Tribe Swap, and unfortunately for him, leaving the game had almost nothing to do with his gameplay.
As for Jelly and Devon, they are going to be main characters of the merge the same way they have been during the Tribe stage. I could see both of them still being in the game on finale night. Jelly is still my winner pick.
