Last year, I had the privilege of reading Colette’s debut novel Whisked Away (Dove Point #1), and in my review I said I needed at least eight more books about this group of friends in this small town. And somehow, Colette heard me — because here we are with another Dove Point story.
I love when I get what I want.
I absolutely devoured Swept Away in about five hours because I genuinely could not put it down. The same thing happened to me with book one. There’s something about the way Colette writes Dove Point that feels incredibly immersive and comforting at the same time. The town feels lived in, the friendships feel authentic, and every side character feels like someone you’d actually run into at the local coffee shop. It’s the kind of setting you want to crawl into and stay in for a while.
One of my favorite things about Colette’s writing is how grounded her characters feel. August and Riley aren’t just romance protagonists thrown together for the sake of tension — they feel like real people dealing with real emotions and real struggles. I especially appreciated the ADHD representation through August and the anxiety representation through Riley. Those aspects of their characters never felt surface-level or performative; instead, they added depth to who they are and how they move through relationships and the world around them.
And speaking of relationships… the tension between August and Riley had me losing my mind in the best way possible. They have such a solid emotional foundation that every lingering glance, every almost-moment, every bit of banter hits even harder. The yearning in this book? Immaculate. I may or may not have yelled “WHEN WILL YOU KISS ALREADY?” at my ceiling despite fully knowing it would happen eventually because I actively follow Colette’s Instagram and have zero self-control when it comes to spoilers.
What I love most about this series is that the romance never exists in a vacuum. The friendships, the town dynamics, the emotional growth — it all works together to make the story feel bigger than just one couple. Dove Point feels like a real community, and every time I finish one of these books I immediately want to go back.
And that epilogue? Oh, Colette absolutely knew what she was doing there. I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say I am already ridiculously excited for book three and the next duo we’ll get to follow. I’m going to be genuinely sad when this series eventually ends, but until then, I’ll happily keep showing up for what is quickly becoming a five-star comfort series from an amazing author.
