On the heels of the 1000th episode milestone of this silly game, we knew there was going to be a twist. Big Brother (BB)  Host Julie Chen Moonves told us live feeds would be down until after the Sunday episode and that somebody’s game at the end of the episode would be coming to an end.

The houseguests were informed of this stipulation when they were sent to the backyard in the year 1,000 for the head of household competition. Instead of the head of household (HOH) competition, there would be four competitions and one person’s game would end before the jury, with each one of the four competitions being hosted by a BB legend.

This is how the competition worked:

  1. Everyone competes in the first competition, which houseguests had to balance four tall candles on a platform. The winner would earn their safety, safe somebody else and send in two other people to compete.
  2. The winner of the second competition would save one person and send another back to compete against the loser of the second competition
  3. The winner of the third competition would choose two people to compete against the loser of the third competition, saving the other two.
  4. The winner of the fourth competition would choose who to evict between the two losers.

Yes, I know this is all confusing to read about. In simplest terms, here’s what happened:

  • Dee wins the first competition. The strategy for the winner is to pick the people you’re working with to give them more opportunities to save themselves. Dee wants to payback Devens for using the diamond power of veto on her, so she saves him. She does not want to force Angela into competition, so she sends out Drew and Haley, knowing both would save Angela. This move doesn’t sit well with Barrett, who in the diary room tells us he thinks the icons may be trying to replace him in the Crossovers (which I thought was dead?) with Haley.
  • Drew wins the second competition, which was a race to see who could fit puzzle pieces in a barrel the fastest. Even though Melody pushes Drew to save her to show her that he still wants to work together, Drew does indeed save Angela and sends Barrett out to compete against Haley.
  • Barrett wins a competition where you have to put two grapes in a tube and cross the balance beam, putting both grapes in its slot. Doing this 14 times for a total of 28 grapes.
  • The Crossovers want to put Lala (who thinks Taylor wouldn’t save her for some reason) and Taylor, up against Haley, but Yash volunteers to Barrett to let him and Lala go in against Haley, so Yash can win and evict Haley.

This is where the episode abruptly ends, and we have to wait until Wednesday to see who between Haley, Yash, Taylor, and Lala doesn’t make the jury. Wednesday’s episode will also feature the HOH competition, the veto competition, and the return of Zingbot!

Non spoiler thoughts

  • This episode could have been an email, I’m sorry. Production should have either politicked for an extra half hour special Sunday episode or found a way to fit the whole twist into one episode. Are there people out there that think live feeds are still off?
  • While the episode itself I thought disappointed, the theory behind the twist was good. Force houseguests to show their cards.
  • Should Angela be worried Dee and Devens do not prioritise her?
  • Will this be a game-changing move for Barrett if he double crosses the Crossovers and puts Yash in the competition over Taylor?
  • How long before Drew and Melody separate? A man can only burn a bridge with a woman so far. Melody has proven to be bad for the 22-year-old’s game.
