Couch lit up First Ave with one of the most fun, high-energy shows I’ve seen in a long time. From the moment they hit the stage, it was clear the band was having the absolute time of their lives and that energy spread through the crowd instantly. Every member was fully locked in, smiling, dancing, and feeding off the audience’s excitement. The night kicked off with “What Were You Thinking,” the opening track from their new album Big Talk, which dropped October 24th, 2025. It was the perfect start to the Big Talk Tour, a confident, joyful burst of sound that instantly had the crowd on their feet.
The setlist flowed effortlessly through new songs and fan favorites, each one bursting with color and precision. Standout moments included “One Night,” which had the crowd singing along and dancing in unison, highlighting the band’s ability to make every song feel like a celebration. As a seven-piece band, Couch is a rare kind of musical chemistry. Each member adds their own distinct layer, from the rhythm section’s tight foundation to the horn’s warm brightness and the rich vocal harmonies. Together, they blend into something cohesive and dynamic, creating a sound that’s instantly recognizable and impossible not to move to.
Couch’s music sits at the crossroads of modern pop and vintage ’70s groove, pairing pop’s energy with the era’s unmistakable warmth and bounce. Their sound is shaped by bright sax and trumpet lines, layered harmonies, and sharply crafted rhythms that lock together with effortless precision. Each arrangement balances precision with playfulness, creating music that feels both meticulously crafted and effortlessly alive. Their soulful vocals, dynamic horn lines, and irresistible rhythms transformed First Ave into a full-on dance party. The chemistry among the seven members was undeniable, like a group of close friends completely in sync, feeding off each other’s energy and inviting the audience to share in the joy.
The Big Talk album itself feels like the heart behind the night’s performance. “Big Talk is the opposite of small talk. It’s about digging deep, making intimate connections, and being bolder, more confident versions of ourselves,” explains lead singer Tema Siegel. Guitarist Zach Blankstein adds, “Big Talk is the fullest expression of who we are right now. It’s the most collaborative we’ve ever been, with every member’s voice and sensibilities woven into the music. Mixing genres has always been part of what we do, but this record takes that even further and with more intention than ever before.”
It’s rare to see a band whose joy is this contagious. Couch made First Ave feel like one big living room full of good vibes, great music, and people who didn’t want the night to end.
