Three years ago, I wrote a piece about how in my opinion there’s not a bad modern day country music artist. In that piece, I talk about how I started listening to country music in 2012 when I heard “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line (FGL) and how Brian Kelly and Tyler Hubbard were the only two country artists I listened to for a long time.

In 2022, FGL separated, and it forced me to broaden my horizons and listen to more country artists. In hindsight, it was the best thing to ever happen to my country music tastes because I now listen to 20-plus artists (the recent article on this site from Cherrelle Johnson on Megan Marooney’s Cloud 9 album hit me in all of the feelings). However, when I scrolled across my Instagram feed on the night of June 4 and saw FGL announce their return at the Country Music Awards in Nashville, TN, all those feelings I had back over a decade ago returned. The next morning, the FGL IG account was updated with a logo that read, “FGL…LFG,” confirming their return.

For fans of the group, FGL’s breakup was a shock because it came out of nowhere, and the sad part is (even though it is 100% unconfirmed but highly likely from comments from both Hubbard and Kelly), the breakup was over politics, mainly the results of the 2020 Presidential Election.

And in my opinion, the reason was confirmed at the CMA’s when Hubbard on stage said the following: “One, God is great. Two, life is short. And most importantly, we’re back.”

It is unknown whether FGL will be producing new music, but honestly they don’t have to. The duo have 73 tracks over five albums that can carry them on tours for live. When they came out at the CMA’s singing “Round Here”, a song that came out as part of their first album, “Here’s to the Good Times” in 2013, that’s all the nostalgia I needed to listen to as many FGL songs as I possibility could throughout the next few days.

When somebody asks me to share a fun fact about myself, I always say I’ve never been to a concert. If FGL comes to my hometown, I will have to change that fun fact. FGL is indeed back… LFG!
