Stepping into the historic Palace Theatre on April 29, it was clear the night ahead would be something special. But what Il Volo delivered went far beyond expectations.

Backed by a full orchestra featuring horns, strings, piano, woodwinds, and more, the trio created a performance that felt both grand and deeply personal. From the first note, it was impossible not to be pulled into the world they built on stage.

Il Volo's vocals were nothing short of breathtaking. Each note carried power, precision, and emotion, filling the theater with a richness that only live performance can truly capture. There were multiple moments throughout the night that sent chills through the crowd, a reminder of just how impactful live music can be when everything clicks.

Visually, the show matched that energy. The lighting design flowed seamlessly with each song, shifting in tone and intensity to reflect the mood of the music. Whether it was a soft spotlight isolating a solo moment or a full stage glow behind the trio, every detail felt intentional and elevated the experience.

One of the most compelling parts of the night was the balance between the trio’s unity and their individuality. As Ignazio Boschetto shared early in the set, Il Volo is “three different voices, three different personalities,” and that rang true throughout the performance.

Each member had their moment to shine.

Ignazio opened the solo performances with “Ch’ella Mi Creda,” delivering a powerful and emotional rendition that immediately showcased his range. Piero followed with “E Lucevan Le Stelle,” leaving the audience in awe, with one moment prompting the thought: how does he make it sound that effortless?

When it was Gianluca’s turn, the atmosphere shifted into something both intimate and playful. A fan calling out “Gianluca, te amo!” drew laughter from the crowd before he transitioned into an Elvis medley. Sitting under a single spotlight, the simplicity of the moment made it all the more striking.

Beyond their individual performances, what stood out most was how much fun they had together on stage. Whether it was playful teasing between songs or Ignazio jokingly telling Gianluca to “sing, sing,” their chemistry felt genuine and infectious. The light “bickering” between Piero and Ignazio became a recurring highlight, drawing laughter from the audience and adding a layer of personality to the night.

The setlist also offered a wide range of musical moments. A Broadway-inspired segment included favorites like selections from The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, and Evita, with Ignazio sharing his love for Broadway and recalling his first experience seeing The Lion King. The trio moved effortlessly between genres, making each song feel like a natural part of the evening.

They also included a moving performance of “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” along with “Smile,” the classic made famous by Charlie Chaplin, which carried an emotional weight that resonated throughout the theater.

They later performed “Hallelujah,” inviting the crowd into the moment and creating a shared experience that felt both intimate and powerful.

Of course, no Il Volo performance would be complete without “Grande Amore,” their powerful Eurovision performance song, which brought a surge of energy and passion to the room.

The night built toward a stunning finale with “Nessun Dorma.” After nearly two hours of music, the performance felt like a culmination of everything that came before. Watching the trio reach those final notes was nothing short of awe-inspiring, and the crowd responded with an incredible standing ovation. One of many throughout the night, showing just how deeply the performance resonated with fans.

Another standout aspect of the night was their commitment to highlighting the orchestra. Throughout the show, there were multiple moments where the musicians and the maestro were given the spotlight, allowing the audience to fully appreciate the talent supporting the trio. It added depth to the performance and reinforced just how collaborative the experience was.

In a time where phones often dominate concert experiences, Il Volo also encouraged fans to stay present, creating an atmosphere where the focus remained on the music itself. It was a refreshing change and allowed the emotion of the performance to fully resonate.

At its core, the night was a celebration of bel canto, storytelling, and connection. You could see the passion in every note, every glance between the trio, and every interaction with the audience.

For longtime fans and first-time listeners alike, Il Volo’s stop in Columbus was a reminder of the power of live music to move, connect, and leave a lasting impression.

Il Volo continues their world tour throughout 2026 and into 2027, including a second run of North American shows this fall. You can find all upcoming tour dates and ticket information at: https://www.ilvolomusic.com/tour/
