From celebrity panels packed wall-to-wall with fans to elaborate cosplay displays filling the convention floor, Motor City Comic Con 2026 transformed the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi, MI into a massive celebration of pop culture throughout the weekend. Across three packed days, the convention brought together celebrity guests, artists, cosplayers, vendors, and fans from across the country for one of the event’s largest years yet.
The convention floor felt constantly alive. Whether attendees came to meet their favorite actors, hunt for collectibles, show off handmade cosplay creations, compete in cosplay contests, or simply spend the weekend surrounded by people who shared the same passions, there truly was something happening around every corner. Between packed panels, interactive experiences, wrestling matches, and endless rows of Artist Alley booths, the weekend offered fans countless ways to immerse themselves in the worlds and communities they love.

As someone who has joined the con space more recently, one of the things that continues to stand out most is the sense of community these events create. There is something special about being surrounded by thousands of people who care deeply about the same movies, shows, games, comics, and characters that you do. Throughout the weekend, conversations sparked naturally between strangers in panel lines, crowds erupted into applause for cosplayers during competitions, and fans eagerly shared stories about the projects and actors that shaped their lives growing up.
And with Motor City Comic Con continuing to expand year after year, that sense of community felt bigger than ever in 2026.
Celebrity Panels Bring Fans Closer to Their Favorite Franchises

One of the biggest highlights of the weekend was the sheer variety of celebrity panels available throughout all three days of the convention. At almost any given time, fans had multiple options to choose from, whether they wanted to hear behind-the-scenes stories from beloved franchises, attend comedy-filled Q&A sessions, or celebrate the legacy of iconic characters alongside the actors who brought them to life.
Among the weekend’s most anticipated panels was the panel for The Boys featuring Karl Urban, Laz Alonso, and Shawn Ashmore ahead of the series finale airing this week. Fans packed into the Diamond Ballroom long before the panel began, eager to hear stories from the cast as they reflected on the chaos, emotional moments, and behind-the-scenes memories that helped define the series over the last five seasons. The panel balanced outrageous filming stories with surprisingly heartfelt conversations surrounding character growth and the humanity underneath the violence that made the series resonate so strongly with viewers. You can read our full recap from the panel here.

Another crowd favorite throughout the weekend was Jerry Trainor, whose panel quickly became one of the most energetic and interactive sessions of the convention. From discussing his improv background and early acting career to sharing hilarious behind-the-scenes memories from iCarly and Drake & Josh, Trainor had fans laughing nonstop throughout the panel. The actor’s naturally chaotic comedic energy made it feel less like a traditional Q&A and more like a live performance, with fans enthusiastically lining up to ask questions and share theories surrounding some of his most iconic characters.
Trainor also reflected on the lasting connection he still shares with fans years after the shows originally aired, explaining that he now genuinely enjoys traveling to conventions and meeting the people who grew up watching his work. “I’m gonna go out and feel the love for a little bit,” he shared while discussing his experience attending conventions. Whether he was joking about stolen props from set, discussing the possibility of future projects, or reacting to increasingly wild fan theories, the panel perfectly captured the nostalgic energy many attendees were hoping to experience throughout the weekend.
John Boyega and Billie Lourd’s Sunday panel also delivered some of the convention’s most heartfelt moments. The two actors spent much of the panel reflecting on the friendships built during filming the Star Wars sequel trilogy and their ongoing relationships with both the franchise and its fans. The pair continuously played off one another throughout the panel, joking around while also reflecting on the friendships they built during filming. “John and I have been absolute boys since the beginning,” Lourd laughed, with Boyega quickly responding, “that’s my guy.”
Boyega shared stories from his lengthy audition process for the franchise, which lasted nearly nine months, while Lourd reflected on growing up attending conventions alongside her mother (Carrie Fisher) before eventually stepping into the experience herself as a guest. Throughout the panel, both actors repeatedly emphasized how much the fan community continues to mean to them years later, creating one of the weekend’s most genuine and emotionally grounded conversations.

Meanwhile, Selma Blair delivered one of the convention’s most personal and inspiring panels. Reflecting on her career spanning projects like Legally Blonde, Cruel Intentions, and Hellboy, Blair spoke openly about her life, career, and connection to Detroit, warmly reflecting on returning home for the convention and attending a Detroit Tigers game that Friday night. Her panel carried a warmth that immediately resonated with the audience, especially as she thanked fans for taking the time and energy to attend conventions and support the guests throughout the weekend.
As someone living with EDS and POTS myself, hearing Blair openly discuss the realities of balancing health, work, and public appearances felt especially meaningful. I also briefly had the opportunity to thank her personally for attending the convention, knowing how physically demanding weekends like these can be. Conversations like that are part of what make conventions feel so unique. Even brief interactions can leave lasting impressions.

Fan Creativity Takes Over the Convention Floor
Beyond the celebrity panels, one of the strongest parts of Motor City Comic Con remained the fans themselves.
Throughout the weekend, the convention floor overflowed with cosplay ranging from screen-accurate recreations to entirely original creations inspired by beloved franchises. Whether attendees spent months handcrafting armor pieces, styling wigs, sewing costumes, or building props, the amount of creativity visible throughout the halls was incredible to witness. One of the most exciting parts of attending conventions as both a fan and photographer is getting to see how much passion people pour into celebrating the media they love.

The cosplay contests especially highlighted that creativity, with contestants showcasing countless hours of craftsmanship and performance work in front of an enthusiastic crowd that consistently cheered on every participant. Even outside the official contest, cosplay became one of the convention’s defining visual elements as fans stopped for photos, complimented each other’s work, and bonded over shared interests throughout the weekend.
The sense of community extended far beyond the cosplay scene as well. From longtime convention veterans to first-time attendees experiencing their first major con, fans throughout the weekend consistently shared stories, recommendations, excitement, and genuine enthusiasm with one another. That welcoming atmosphere is one of the things that continues to make conventions so enjoyable to attend. Over the last two years, conventions have become a newer space for me personally, but events like MC3 continue to remind me how special fandom spaces can feel when people are simply excited to celebrate the things they love together.

Experiences Beyond the Main Stage
Outside the main panel rooms, the convention also offered plenty of interactive experiences that kept the weekend feeling active and immersive. Fans could participate in themed bingo games hosted by FreeN'Fun Bingo, attend live filmmaking demonstrations through the Motion Picture Institute’s horror movie workshop, watch Pure Pro wrestling matches throughout the weekend, or participate in LED saber classes and watch saber shows led by experienced performers.

One especially unique experience came from the live horror filmmaking demonstrations, where attendees were invited to actively participate in scenes while learning more about the filmmaking process between takes. Watching fans step into on-camera roles while also asking questions about production techniques created a fun educational experience that felt genuinely interactive rather than simply performative.
The sheer variety of activities helped the convention feel immersive no matter what fandom attendees came to celebrate.
Artist Alley and Vendors Encourage Exploration
Of course, no convention experience would feel complete without spending time wandering through Artist Alley and the vendor floor.
Motor City Comic Con 2026 featured countless booths filled with comics, collectibles, handmade art, jewelry, plushies, swords, shields, prints, apparel, and nearly every kind of fandom merchandise imaginable. It was easy to spend hours weaving through the aisles discovering artists and vendors tucked between larger booths.

Sometimes the most memorable convention moments are not necessarily tied to major celebrity appearances or scheduled events, but instead come from stumbling across an artist whose work immediately catches your attention or finding a piece connected to a favorite childhood fandom you had not thought about in years.
Even getting slightly lost throughout the vendor hall became part of the fun.
The convention also incorporated local food trucks outside the venue throughout the weekend, something that helped the event feel even more connected to the surrounding community while offering attendees additional options during long days at the convention center.

Accessibility and Organization Continue to Strengthen the Convention Experience

Motor City Comic Con also stood out organizationally throughout the weekend. Despite extremely long lines for passes on Saturday morning, the staff handled crowd flow efficiently and kept lines moving at a surprisingly steady pace. Signage throughout the venue made navigation easy, while the convention’s wide aisles helped the crowded floor remain manageable for many attendees using wheelchairs, mobility aids, or rollators.
The convention’s accessibility efforts were also noticeable throughout the weekend, particularly the ASL interpreters present during panels who helped ensure more fans could fully participate in the conversations happening on stage. It was genuinely encouraging to see accessibility treated as an important part of the experience rather than an afterthought. While there is always room for conventions to continue improving, particularly when it comes to tighter autograph table areas and the potential addition of live captioning on panel screens in the future, MC3 overall felt thoughtfully organized and welcoming for a wide variety of attendees.
A Weekend Built Around Community
At its core, Motor City Comic Con 2026 succeeded because it never felt like the weekend revolved solely around celebrity appearances or major franchises. Instead, the convention consistently centered the people attending it.
From longtime convention veterans helping first-time attendees navigate the floor to fans passionately discussing favorite shows while waiting in line for panels, the event created countless small moments of connection throughout the weekend. Whether someone arrived hoping to meet a favorite actor, compete in cosplay, discover new artists, or simply spend time surrounded by people who shared their interests, there was a place for everyone within the convention halls.
By the end of the weekend, it was easy to understand why Motor City Comic Con has continued growing into one of the Midwest’s biggest pop culture events.
Motor City Comic Con will return to the Vibe Credit Union Showplace November 13–15, 2026. Additional information regarding tickets, guests, and future convention updates can be found on Motor City Comic Con’s official website.
